Quarter Past

I woke up this morning feeling a little ill over last night's burrito. Don't get me wrong, really spicy was great to ingest, just a little rough to digest.

So we are in Cincinnati Ohio. Hubert's friend Malcolm has been kind enough to host us and we are spending two days here. With any luck, we'll get downtown and catch a couple of museums while here.

The tour is going well, I think I am alone in this, but I will be sorry to see Ohio go. The Adventure cycling maps, though often hard to navigate, took us through some really pretty country. The sunsets here have all been beautiful and even our day in seemingly endless rain seemed tolerable.

For all those interested, a huge "I told you so" is deserved to come my way with regard to the headwinds. We are riding into it much more often than not. I am grateful for trees just for the wind shelter they provide.

On a personal note, I am getting much more sun on my left side than my right. This is best illustrated by my "south leg" and the "south side of my face." The left side of my lower lip is so sunburned I have come to resemble "Two-Face" from Batman comics. I picked up some frilly chapstick with sunscreen and I have been most dilligent about its application since then. I am sure I will be back to my handsome self again in no time (minus the creepy beard, of course).

One last thing worth noting; We watched a seemingly ill raccoon yesterday for about twenty minutes as it wandered aimlessly in a dry creek bed doing its best impression of my little sister after a long night at the OP. This whole display came to an end with the sorry critter sitting up on its haunches and gnarling its teeth towards the sky silently while leaning back into a concrete bridge support. We all thought lockjaw for sure, but then the beast laid its head down on a rock and went to sleep as though none of this had just happened. Despite my best efforts, I couldn't get Hubert to go feed it a Duplex cream cookie.

First Week

Photobucket

Wilson and I have been riding for 7 days now and we are taking our first rest day. My right knee has been sore but I think this day of rest will do us much good. For the sake of posterity, I'd like to make a quick record of where we have stayed thus far. Day 1- Rogers Rock Campground, NY, Day 2- Northampton Campground, NY, Day 3- The Madonia household in Clinton, NY, Day 4, Gennie's House in Syracuse, NY, Day 5- Hubert's Aunt Suzanne's home in Brighton, NY, Day 6- an undisclosed location in or around Albion, NY, and Day 7, Gail's house in Buffalo, NY.
I have been trying to get photos uploaded for an hour, so I am going to post a couple photos, then give up on this computer nonsense.

Nice night in Burlington

Suddenly this trip is a boulder in my path and I have no brakes. Tonight was last dinner with mother, sister and close friends. "S" and I are heading home via bicycle and we are passed from behind by a ford explorer with Virginia plates. We had just turned onto Elmwood Ave and the car in question began following us on at that moment. We had yet to pass the mailboxes towards RU12 so I would have guessed we were followed for roughly 100 feet during which time, there was more than ample space to pass. As the vehicle passed me it slowed down and the passenger said "Tell your bitch to move over so I can get around." Thanks Burlington, I love you too.

Itchin'

A late September rain shower soaks the landscape and my knee throbs like a bastard. Sometime between 11 am September 30th and 11 am October 1st, I am mounting up and heading west. After the setting sun I'll run drafting my endless Indian summer. Suicide or bust. Get behind it!
